Following an extensive search and selection process, we have appointed Emma Scott as our new Chair of the Board of Trustees.

Emma brings a wealth of strategic, brand and digital leadership experience to our team, along with a strong track record of revenue diversification and managing transformational change across complex organisations. With a career spanning broadcasting and children’s publishing, she has consistently championed innovation and growth while putting children’s needs and voices at the heart of everything she does, both online and in the real world.

As CEO of Beano Studios, Emma led the transformation of the iconic comic into a global, digital-first brand for children. She brings extensive board-level experience, including her role as CEO of Freesat and senior leadership positions at the BBC. Her current board appointments include Non-Executive Director at Which? Ltd and Chair of World Book Day. She has previously served as Vice Chair of Ovarian Cancer Action and the Royal Television Society.

A passionate advocate for online safety, inclusion, and youth voice, Emma will play a vital role in shaping our future strategy, ensuring we remain bold, relevant, and impactful in achieving our Vision of stopping child abuse and neglect, while safeguarding brand integrity and audience trust.

The Chair of the Board of Trustees is responsible for the overall control and direction of the NSPCC and gives their time voluntarily to oversee the charity’s long-term success.

Emma will join us in December, succeeding current Chair, Neil Berkett, when his final term of office comes to an end.

Welcoming Emma’s appointment, Chris Sherwood, Chief Executive said:

“I’m delighted to welcome Emma as our incoming NSPCC Chair. Emma brings a vast amount of experience to the NSPCC.  I am very much looking forward to working closely with Emma in the months and years ahead to make an even bigger impact for children and young people.

“Emma steps into the role as Neil Berkett concludes his final term of office and I want to express my huge thanks and appreciation for all that Neil has contributed to the NSPCC, and our important work, through his tenure as Chair and over the years.

“I’d also like to express my thanks to everyone who was part of the search and selection process to find us our new Chair – I know it has been a very thorough process, and I really appreciate the efforts of all those involved.”

Emma Scott, Incoming Chair of the Board of Trustees, said:

“It’s a tremendous privilege to be joining this remarkable organisation. I know how much passion, resilience and expertise lives within the NSPCC, across our staff, volunteers, supporters and partners and I want to thank you for everything you do.

“I see the NSPCC’s role as vital, not only in delivering services and support where it is needed most, but in being a strong and influential voice in public life, particularly as children and young people’s worlds now straddle the digital as well as physical. Our mission is bold, and rightly so — we are here to keep children safe, to stand with young people, and to ensure that abuse has no place in any child’s story.

“As Chair, I’ll work closely with the Board and with Chris and the Executive team to ensure we continue to be ambitious for children, accountable to our supporters, and courageous in our actions.”
