Our work in Wales

We’re working to prevent child abuse in Wales. You can help us be there to support every child that needs us.

Abuse can ruin childhoods and the effects can last a lifetime. But with your help, we're working to prevent child abuse in Wales – and help children and young people who’ve been abused rebuild their lives.

Our services in Wales

We're supporting families in Wales when they need us to help make sure children are given the best chance in life.

Our Wales national hub provides support to children, families and professionals. We support parents and families in caring for their children and provide therapeutic assistance to help children move on from abuse.

We also provide help and support through the NSPCC helpline, Childline and our work with schools.

Direct Services

Pregnancy in Mind

Pregnancy in Mind (PiM) service is a preventative, evidence-based, groupwork service for expectant parent/s who are at risk of or experiencing mild to moderate anxiety and/or depression during the perinatal period.

The programme includes:

  • Mindfulness meditation
  • Active relaxation – body based exercises
  • Understanding mental health and developing ways to manage it
  • Bringing baby into the room
  • Social support
  • Couple and co-parenting.

Letting the Future in

Letting the Future In is a therapeutic service for children and young people aged 4–17 who have been sexually abused.

Children and young people who have been abused can often be left feeling confused and upset about what’s happened to them and having the chance to explore their thoughts and feelings can be really helpful. We recognise that sexual abuse impacts upon the whole family and so we work with both siblings and safe carers to ensure that everyone is supported.

The service is unique in that it uses a variety of different approaches to help support the child/young person to process their experiences. This includes using art, CBT techniques, drama, play such as messy play, storytelling, sand tray and psycho-educative tools.

Childline

Childline is here to help anyone under 19 in the UK with any issue they’re going through. Our free, confidential support is available online or on the phone any time, day or night.

We have two Childline bases in Wales and the service is promoted both in English and in Welsh within the country. Children can ask to speak to a Welsh-speaking counsellor and can also read the most popular Childline web content in Welsh. For more information see our Cynnig Cymraeg/Welsh Language Offer page.

Speak out Stay safe

We support children to help them understand that abuse is never their fault, and that they have the right to be safe. We're visiting primary schools across Wales with our Speak out Stay safe programme to help children understand that they can speak to a safe adult or to Childline if they ever need help or support or if they’re worried.

Volunteering

Join the fight for every childhood through our one of our volunteering opportunities in Wales.

Join our schools service team as a volunteer to help protect children from abuse and give them the confidence to seek help if they ever need it. We also need volunteers who can deliver these vital messages in Welsh-medium schools.

Find a volunteer role

Childline has been a place for children to turn to for over 30 years. On average, two children a minute contact Childline. Help us be there for more children in one of our volunteer roles.

Campaigning

We give a voice to children when no one is listening. We stand up for children in Wales by finding the best ways to prevent abuse and neglect. We work with Welsh Government and the National Assembly for Wales to strengthen policy and legislation and urge them to take action to better protect children. Become a campaigner and help us demand that all children in Wales are worth fighting for.

We’ve made it our mission to teach parents and children the PANTS rule. We have a range of PANTS guides for parents and carers including guides in Welsh.

Right from birth, every time you talk, sing or play with your baby, you’re not just bonding, you’re building their brain. Sign-up for brain-building tips.
