Plan your Christmas fundraiser

Wreath making workshop

Our first Christmas fundraising idea is perfect for any crafty elves – plan a wreath making workshop! It’s a great Christmas fundraiser because it’s on theme and is a brilliant way to kick off your festive decorating.

After selecting a date, you’ll need to decide where you’ll be hosting your workshop. If you have enough space, you could do this at your home or office space. If you need a bit more room, consider a community/church hall, a local library or a pub function room.

Next, decide which type of wreath you’ll be making in your Christmas fundraiser. You can use our wreath making guide on page five of our Christmas fundraising resources for inspiration. Choose between a traditional wreath, or a foraged, felt, paper or pom pom alternative. Do some research to find the best option for your event.

To raise money during your event, ask everyone to donate to the NSPCC if they want to take part. If you’re providing the materials, make sure this covers costs, as well as raising some money for the NSPCC. To help boost your Christmas fundraising, you could have some drinks, snacks or baked goods at your workshop, and ask people to donate in return for refreshments.

Christmas pudding making class

Santa and Rudolph aren’t the only ones who deserve a tasty Christmas treat! Hosting a Christmas pudding making class is a great Christmas fundraising idea for anyone with a sweet tooth.

To start planning, you’ll need to select a date for your Christmas fundraiser. The last weekend in November is usually a good time, as traditionally Christmas puddings are made around four to six weeks before Christmas. Plan your Christmas fundraising event for this period, and the flavours of your pudding will be just right!

Choose where you want to host your Christmas fundraiser. You might want to host it at home, at work, or if you need more space you might need to book a space in a venue. Wherever you are, make sure it has a well-equipped kitchen and space for everyone to make their Christmas puddings.

Ask everyone to donate to attend your workshop, and if possible, bring their own ingredients and bowl to take their Christmas puddings home. You can use our recipe and guide to help you plan your Christmas pudding fundraiser. Finally, don’t forget to give your attendees instructions on how to complete the Christmas pudding process at home.

Christmas crafts

This Christmas fundraising idea is a great way to save money on gifts. By planning a Christmas crafts fundraiser, you can sort your Christmas essentials whilst raising money for the NSPCC.

The first thing to consider with this Christmas fundraising idea is what to craft. Our Christmas fundraising resources have some crafting ideas to get you started. Options could include Christmas cards, tree decorations, personalised baubles, Christmas stockings or salt dough creations. Choose something you can find the resources for, and something to match your crafting skills.

For this Christmas fundraiser, you have two options to raise donations – you can either host a Christmas crafting party where people donate to attend, or you can make all the crafts yourself and sell to friends, family or local Christmas fayres.

Whether you make the crafts yourself or host an event – ask people for a donation in return for your crafty creations. Every pound you raise through Christmas fundraising will help to keep more children safe from abuse.

Festive quiz

This may be the best Christmas fundraising idea if you’re looking to bring people together during the festive period. From merry music to festive films – Christmas easily lends itself to quiz rounds.

When planning this Christmas fundraiser, your location is something you’ll want to get sorted early. Will it be in a venue like a pub or cafe, or will you host it at home, at work or online?

Our Christmas fundraising resources include some inspiration for trivia questions you could include in your quiz. You can invite friends, family or colleagues – this Christmas fundraising idea is perfect for bringing different groups together.

To raise money for the NSPCC, ask your attendees to donate as their entry fee. You can make the quiz more competitive by introducing the option for teams to use a ‘joker card’. Teams can make a donation (determined by you) and double their points on a round they feel most confident in! They need to choose to use this before they play the round, so make sure you tell everyone about it at the start of the quiz.

You could also boost your fundraising by including a raffle with a variety of prizes alongside your quiz. Ask any local businesses or friends and family if they'd be happy to donate any prizes to support your Christmas fundraiser. This can help you keep costs down, as well as involving your local community in your NSPCC fundraising event.

Christmas should mean warmth and family. But for too many children, it can be the most dangerous time of the year.

As schools close and families gather at home, domestic abuse can become harder to escape, leaving children afraid and alone.

Last winter, nearly 3,000 children contacted Childline. From quizzes to wreath making workshops, your festive fundraiser helps us answer vital contacts to Childline. Because when a child rings, we need to be ready to answer.

The money raised from your Christmas fundraising event will help us prevent child abuse.

It could be used to help fund our therapeutic services, our Helpline or Childline. Wherever your donation is needed most, that’s where it will go.

If you’d like to find out how the money you raise is spent, you can visit our How your money is spent page.

There are lots of ways to get involved and support the NSPCC this Christmas.

You could make a donation on our website to help Childline answer more urgent calls from children this Christmas.

You could order our Christmas Kindness Kit bursting with seasonal sparkle, creativity and joy, to help any children in your life count down to the big day.

We’ve also got a wonderful selection of festive products, including cards and gifts, available in our online shop. From Magical Reindeer Food to Santa’s Magic Key, these fun family activities are perfect for Christmas Eve.
